Real Talk Believer

Real faith for real life. No sermons, no judgment, just a friend who gets it.

Can I be honest with you for a minute? Some mornings my faith does not feel like faith at all. It feels like a tiny, flickering thing — barely enough to get me out of bed and facing whatever the day has planned. If you have ever felt that way too, like your faith is too small to matter, I want you to hear this with me today: small faith is still faith. And in God’s hands, small is never the problem.

There is a moment in the Gospels where the disciples come to Jesus, frustrated because they couldn’t do what He asked. He tells them it isn’t about having some giant, unshakable amount of faith. It’s about who that faith is pointed at.

“He said to them, ‘Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.’”

Matthew 17:20

A mustard seed is tiny. You could lose one in the folds of your palm. And yet Jesus says that’s all it takes to move a mountain — not because the seed is powerful, but because of what it’s planted in. Our faith doesn’t need to be enormous. It just needs to be planted in a God who is.

You don’t need more faith. You need the right address for it.

I used to think the goal was to work my way up to “big faith” — like if I just prayed harder or believed more confidently, I’d finally have enough. But that’s backwards. The mustard seed teaches us that tiny, trembling faith aimed at an unlimited God will always outperform a mountain of confidence aimed at ourselves. It’s not about the size of what you’re holding. It’s about the size of the One holding you.

So today, if all you’ve got is a mustard seed’s worth of trust — that the bills will work out, that the diagnosis isn’t the end of the story, that your prodigal is coming home, that your marriage can heal, that you are not too far gone — that is enough to start. Plant it. Water it with a little prayer. Let God do what only He can do with it.

Journal Prompt

Grab your journal (or the notes app, no judgment) and finish this sentence: “The mountain I’ve been trying to move on my own is ______. Today I’m choosing to hand it to God, even with a mustard-seed-sized amount of trust.” Write it out. Pray it out loud if you can. Then let it go.

A small tip: keep something small and physical nearby as a reminder — a seed, a stone, a little necklace — something you can touch on the hard days to remember that your faith doesn’t have to be big to be real. I actually keep a Mustard Seed Faith Pendant Necklace from my shop on my dresser for exactly that reason. There’s something about holding a real, tiny seed sealed behind glass that makes this truth feel less like a Bible verse and more like a promise I can carry in my pocket.

Wherever you are today — tired, unsure, holding onto something that feels too heavy — you don’t need bigger faith. You just need to keep planting the little bit you have in the right soil. He’ll grow it from there. He always does.

Sending you so much love today, friend. 🤍
